Karly Burn

Karly started at Antony’s in November 2015 as a Saturday Assistant whilst still attending The Derby High School. After finishing her last year Karly started full time Apprenticeship at Antony’s and also commenced her NVQ Level 2 training. In training she has been passing assessments in her folder to build up her portfolio and knowledge. Working during the week with all the experienced stylists extends Karly’s knowledge about all the different aspects of hairdressing.

Karly says: ‘My favourite day of the week is Monday – the training day. Our tutors are really great. They are very patient, understanding and encouraging. I feel like I can always come to them for help and advice without feeling intimidated. I also love watching them on the salon floor, they are a big inspiration for me and the other girls.’

Megan Gunning

In January 2017 Megan started at Antony’s as a ‘Saturday Assistant’ firstly helping with keeping the salon clean and tidy, preparing drinks for clients and getting to know how the busy salon works.
When Megan left Tottington High School she started her Apprenticeship and now works full time as a Salon Assistant while training in the Academy.

Megan says: ‘I chose Antony’s Academy because I know girls who completed their training there and all of them loved it. I always wanted to have a creative job where you can meet new people whilst working in a busy environment. I really like that you can study and work at the same time with the same team of people. Since I started at Antony’s I have already learnt to cleanse client’s hair, apply colour, blow dry hair and take colour off. Everyone is so supportive and the atmosphere is really friendly. It is also very motivating to watch all the Hair Designers and how they can completely change somebody’s look by choosing the right hair style or colour.’

Sarah Finnerty

Sarah had her school work experience at Antony’s in 2005 whilst attending Coney Green High School. Sarah had initially decided that she wanted to attend college to train as a hairdresser, but after impressing during her work experience placement she was offered an apprenticeship by Antony.
Since completing her NVQ Level2/3 in 2008 at just 17 years old, Sarah has achieved Senior Stylist level and is one of our busiest Stylists in the salon. In between all her salon success Sarah has had 2 children and recently re-joined our team in February 2017 following maternity leave. Sarah’s regular clients could not be happier to welcome her back.

Sarah says: ‘In-salon training is more individual, apprentices can do it at their own pace. It only took me 1 year 4months to qualify because I got a lot of support & models in. As you pass things off you can start practising in the salon so you get used to running a busy column and timings which lead to you becoming more commercially productive. You also earn money while you train. and have a job at the end of it.’
